Project Overview:
Scrolling-Glitch is a plugin I designed to address the growing problem of excessive phone use, particularly the mindless scrolling on social media apps. The goal of the plugin is to offer users a fun and productive way to break the scrolling habit by introducing short, engaging tasks that promote physical health or learning.
How It Works:
When a user has been scrolling for a set amount of time, the Scrolling-Glitch plugin activates, interrupting the app and presenting two choices: Dare or Truth.
Dare:
In this mode, users are prompted to perform a simple physical activity or exercise. These tasks are designed to be quick and easy, helping users stay active and reduce the negative health effects of prolonged screen time. Examples could include stretches, short breathing exercises, or light movements like standing up and walking for a minute.
Truth:
For users who choose "Truth," they are presented with an option to select a topic of interest. The plugin then provides them with fun and educational facts or trivia about that subject. This helps users learn something new and meaningful in place of mindless scrolling, turning wasted time into a learning opportunity.
Design Versions:
I developed two different design approaches to cater to different user preferences:
Minimalistic Version:
This version has a clean, straightforward design with a focus on simplicity. It features neutral colors and a sleek, uncluttered interface. The idea is to provide an interruption that feels calm and easy to navigate, without overwhelming the user.
Graphic Version:
This version is more visually engaging, with vibrant colors, animated elements, and GIFs to make the interaction more entertaining and playful. It is designed to grab the user’s attention and make the experience fun, appealing to those who enjoy a more lively and interactive interface.
